Inspiration

Listen Up

Podcasts are fantastic. They’re free, there are thousands to choose from and the good ones are truly informative. They’re a great way to turn your commute or lunch break into something edifying. And when you get home, if you’re too tired to read, or simply want to zone-out a little without vegetating in front of the TV, just pop on some earphones, lie back and listen.

We’ve rounded up five of the best podcasts for the busy entrepreneur looking for inspiration, whether it be about business or personal development.

The School of Greatness

Portrait of Lewis Howes.

Now in its sixth year, this podcast is hosted by American entrepreneur Lewis Howes and downloaded more than 4-million times a month. Episodes range from interviews with top business and thought leaders and athletes, to solo episodes where Howes discusses everything from health and relationships to mindset and spirituality.

The impressive smorgasbord of past guests include global names like Arianna Huffington, Tony Robbins, Alanis Morissette, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic and Tony Hawk.

TED Radio Hour

It’s highly likely you’ve watched at least one Ted Talk, either live or online; it’s also highly likely that whatever the talk was about, it changed the way you look at things in some way. Problem is, a Ted Talk can be quite long and you often need to set aside around an hour to properly take it in.

That’s where TED Radio Hour comes in.

As well as offering the talks on their own, some are cut down into 10-minute highlight packages. Other episodes offer a combination of various talks on the same or different themes, bringing to light connections between apparently disparate ideas.

Tim Ferriss Show

Portrait of Tim Ferriss.

Best known for his book, ‘The 4-Hour Workweek’, Ferriss’ podcast is often the number-1 ranked podcast on Apple Podcasts and has had over 300-million downloads. Fortune Magazine rated it as their top business podcast.

Each episode sees Ferriss delve into the lives and mindsets of top performers from the realms of investing, sport, business and art, to name a few. Subjects of discussion include things like favourite books, exercise habits, morning routines and time-management.

Famed past guests include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Malcolm Gladwell, Rick Rubin and a host of top business leaders.

The Introvert Entrepreneur

Portrait of Beth L. Buelow.

This is a really intriguing one. Diverting from the noise and bluster of podcasts that promise success to anyone without taking into account the way they interact with people and the world, The Introvert Entrepreneur addresses life and business from an introvert’s perspective.

The podcast, started in 2010, posted its last episode on December 31st 2018 but all episodes are still available. The Introvert Entrepreneur is founded and hosted by Beth Buelow, who runs a personal and professional development company that guides and empowers introverts.

Topics of discussion include self-promotion and networking, leadership, how to better form personal and business relationships, personal growth and how to use introversion to your advantage.

Youpreneur

Portrait of Chris Ducker.

Hosted by Briton Chris Ducker, the Youpreneur posts an episode each week covering subjects from marketing, monetising and growth to building a personal brand. But mostly this is a great podcast for anyone looking to better their work/life balance.

In 2009, Ducker suffered “horrific burnout”—working 14-hour days, six days a week, and neglecting his wife and children. He put a one-year goal in place: to become a ‘virtual CEO’, effectively replacing himself in his business as much as possible. By late-2010, Ducker had not only managed that, he had launched another business.

Ducker now works an average of six hours a day, four days a week and is able to spend more time with his family.
